AI firm Fractal Analytics launched the latest version of its healthcare-focused reasoning model Vaidya 2.0 at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi on February 19.
The company said Vaidya 2.0 scored 50.1 on OpenAI’s HealthBench (hard) benchmark, becoming the first AI model to cross the 50-point mark on the evaluation framework. According to Fractal, the model outperformed GPT-5 and Gemini Pro 3 on the same benchmark.
HealthBench (hard), developed by OpenAI, assesses AI systems on realistic healthcare conversations and health data-related administrative tasks.
This model will be a part of IndiaAI Mission, the fourth sovereign foundational model to be released following the launch of Sarvam, Gnani.ai and BharatGen’s a day earlier.
IndiaAI Mission
Fractal said Vaidya 2.0 is the first in a series of verticalised foundation models it plans to build for healthcare and other sectors, including models designed to solve the unique challenges of the Global South — frugal, scalable, and impact-driven.
"India has built strong digital health foundations over the past decade, from ABHA health IDs to Ayushman Bharat and e-Sanjeevani. The next step is adding reliable reasoning intelligence to those systems," said Srikanth Velamakanni, Co-founder, group chief executive and vice chairman, Fractal.
Fractal's chief AI research and platforms officer Suraj Amonkar added that the company has moved from knowledge-based foundation models to post-trained reasoning and agentic healthcare models.
How was Vaidya 2.0 trained?
Fractal said Vaidya 2.0 has been post-trained to enhance reasoning across a range of healthcare use cases, positioning it as a “Health Care Operating System” to bridge the gap between raw health data and clinical or citizen-facing action.
The use cases of Vaidya 2.0 include emergency triage and decision support (Emergency Assist), citizen-facing symptom checking, and end-to-end patient journey support—from first symptoms to treatment adherence.
