Reliance Industries appoints Dinesh Kanabar as independent director

Dinesh Kanabar is well-known as one of India’s leading chartered accountants.

Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has named Dinesh Kanabar as an additional independent director, with his appointment taking effect from June 12, 2025, following the conclusion of Raminder Singh Gujral’s second term on June 11, 2025.

Kanabar, a well-known chartered accountant, has been appointed for a five-year tenure, subject to the approval of the shareholders, according to RIL filing to the stock exchanges. According to the exchange filing, "With an illustrious career spanning a decade, he (Kanabar) has consistently been at the forefront of India’s tax and regulatory landscape, offering strategic and innovative solutions to both Indian and multinational businesses.

It further informed that Kanabar serves on the boards of some of India’s most prestigious and major companies, including Adani Green Energy Ltd and PVR Inox Ltd. "His deep insight into aligning business strategies with tax and regulatory frameworks has been instrumental in unlocking value for his clients," it added.

Led by Kanabar, Dhruva Advisors LLP, is currently one of India’s largest tax and regulatory advisory firms.

He has also been actively involved in several significant policy initiatives with the Government of India. He was part of the Rangachary Committee, which was set up to recommend tax reforms for the IT/ITES sector and to develop safe harbour provisions. Additionally, he served on a trade advisory panel formed by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, was a member of FICCI’s National Executive Committee, and formerly held a position on the Board of Shiv Nadar University in Chennai.

He was also the Deputy CEO of KPMG India and Chairman of its Tax Practice, where he played a pivotal role in developing the firm’s strategy. Earlier, he was Chairman of the Tax Practice at PwC India, and also served as Deputy Managing Partner of RSM & Co, a highly regarded tax and consulting firm.
