Investors on Thursday mourned the death of portfolio management services (PMS) fund manager Siddhartha Bhaiya, describing him as a “very promising manager gone too soon”.

Bhaiya, Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer at Aequitas, passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was 47.

Aequitas confirmed the development, saying Bhaiya died on December 31 while on a family vacation in New Zealand.

Samir Arora of Helios Capital expressed grief over the news, saying, “Very very sorry to see the news of Siddhartha Bhaiya.”

Finfluencer Alok Jain also condoled the death, saying, “So sad to hear the news on Siddhartha Bhaiya. A very promising manager lost too soon. Just 47!”

Rajarshi Shome, another finfluencer, said "Siddhartha Bhaiya is another reminder that life can end anytime."

Suraj Balakrishnan, tweeted on X, "Shocked to hear that Siddhartha Bhaiya is no more. He was a lovely human being — always happy, with a firm belief in his style of value investing."

Vivek Joshi, said "This is unbelievable and shocking. We lost a legend. Siddhartha Bhaiya was one of few people who I respected a lot in investing fraternity."

Before joining Aequitas in 2012, Bhaiya had worked at the PMS division of Nippon India Mutual Fund until 2011, where he was among the youngest fund managers.

In December, Bhaiya attended Moneycontrol Deserv Wealth Summit in Mumbai. He had sounded a sharp warning on Indian equities, calling the current market a “bubble of epic proportions” rather than a healthy bull phase.

Aequitas added that the market expert was the driving force behind the company. "He was not only a visionary investor, but also a builder of institutions - deeply committed to intellectual honesty, disciplined decision-making, and long-term thinking," the firm said.
