The shares of IndiGo and SpiceJet recorded losses on May 7 after the two Indian airlines announced flight cancellations and diversions following Indian military's strikes against several terrorist outfits across Pakistan, under the codename 'Operation Sindoor'.
The Indian government closed nearly 16 airports in northern and western parts of the country for civilian movement on May 7 after the military operation. The 16 airports include Leh, Thoise, Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Pathankot, Chandigarh, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Jamnagar, Bhatinda, Bhuj, Dharamshala, Shimla, Rajkot, and Porbandar.
After the airports were closed, IndiGo and SpiceJet took to social media to inform passengers about several flight cancellations.
IndiGo cancelled flights to and from Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, Dharamshala, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Gwalior, Kishangarh and Rajkot until May 10. "We are closely monitoring the situation, and further schedule adjustments across other sectors may follow," the airline added. "We understand these are sensitive times, and as always, we are here to help you," it added.

SpiceJet also announced that it has cancelled flights to and from multiple cities for May 7. "Due to the current situation, Leh, Srinagar, Jammu, Kangra, Kandla and Amritsar airports are closed and consequently flights to and from these airports have been cancelled for May 7," it said.

IndiGo shares dropped over 1 percent to trade at Rs 5,264 apiece, while those of SpiceJet were trading nearly 0.8 percent lower at Rs 44 apiece.
