  • Anthropic's Claude Code Security AI tool triggers market sell-off
  • Claude Opus 4.6 found 500+ high-severity code vulnerabilities

Indian cybersecurity stocks faced the rub-off effect of the "mini-flash-crash" recently seen in the sector in US due to the rollout of Anthropic's new AI tool Claude Code Security.

Stocks like TAC Infosec Ltd, TechD Cybersecurity and Quick Heal Technologies declined 14.67%, 13.34% and 5%, respectively. Shares of Sattrix Information Security and Sasken Technologies fell 5% and 2%. respectively.

Claude Code Security is an automated artificial intelligence tool that scans codebases for vulnerabilities. Over $52.6 billion has been wiped out in just two days.

Shares of Palo Alto Networks, the largest cybersecurity firm in the US with a market capitalisation of $116 billion, have declined nearly 9% since the launch.

CrowdStrike, which offers endpoint protection, threat intelligence and cyber incident response services, has been hit harder. Its stock has tumbled 18% since February 20, wiping out about $20 billion in market value.

Other cybersecurity stocks have also seen sharp declines. Cloudflare has dropped 18.5%, erasing $11.2 billion in market capitalisation. Zscaler is down 17.3%, losing $4.6 billion in value, while Okta has fallen 16.7%, shedding $2.6 billion.

According to its website, Anthropic says its chatbot Claude can scan entire codebases for vulnerabilities, validate findings to reduce false positives, and recommend patches for review and approval.

The company claims Claude is capable of reasoning through code like an experienced security researcher, understanding context, tracing data flows and identifying flaws that traditional pattern-matching tools may overlook before suggesting fixes.

Anthropic’s most advanced model, Claude Opus 4.6, has already identified more than 500 high-severity vulnerabilities that had remained undetected despite decades of expert scrutiny, VentureBeat reported on Monday.

Meanwhile, OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, introduced a new benchmark on February 19 to assess how effectively AI models can detect, patch and exploit vulnerabilities in smart contracts. Claude Opus 4.6 topped the rankings in the evaluation.
