Sensex gives up gains; IRB Infra up 4% on strong Q3 numbers

Indian equity markets cooled off from morning highs. At 13.32 hrs, the Sensex fell 14 points at 19,645 and the Nifty slipped closer to 5960. About 1454 shares have advanced, 1213 shares declined, and 827 shares remain unchanged.

Indian equity markets cooled off from morning highs. At 13.32 hrs, the Sensex fell 14 points at 19,645 and the Nifty slipped closer to 5,960.


About 1454 shares have advanced, 1213 shares declined, and 827 shares remain unchanged. Meanwhile, key European indices, DAX (Germany) and CAC (France) opened in red and FTSE is trading flat.


Jindal Steel, Maruti Suzuki, HDFC and Tata Steel were the top gainers on the Sensex.


Power companies like Lanco Infratech , Adani Power, Indiabulls Power and power finance companies like PFC, REC are buzzing in trade after the CCEA gave an in principle nod to the coal price pooling mechanism.


IRB Infra and Apollo Tyres posted strong set of earnings in the third quarter following which both the stock saw significant upmove. IRB Infra rose 4.5 percent as investors cheered better than expected net profit.

On the other hand, HUL, NTPC, BHEL, ICICI Bank and Tata Motors were the top losers on the Sensex.
