Global companies, including Maersk, Honeywell and Temasek, are looking to deepen their engagement with India in sectors such as logistics, railways, manufacturing and semiconductors, IT and railways minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said in Davos on January 22.

In updates shared on the X platform, the minister said shipping and logistics major Maersk is actively engaging with India to strengthen logistics infrastructure spanning shipping, ports and railways. Maersk is also exploring opportunities in the semiconductor ecosystem.

Honeywell is partnering on railway modernisation and has expressed interest in expanding its manufacturing operations in the country, the minister, who is in Davos to participate in the World Economic Forum, said.

Vaishnaw also said Temasek chairman Teo Chee Hean conveyed the Singapore sovereign investor's interest in expanding its presence in the country.

"🤝 Mr. Teo Chee Hean, Temasek Chairman expressed interest in expanding their presence in India. Singapore remains committed to invest in India’s physical & digital infrastructure, and deep‑tech startups," he said in a post on X.

The minister said discussions with global leaders in AI, robotics and cybersecurity at Davos reflect India’s emergence as a trusted value-chain partner, not just a large market.

Earlier, Vaishnaw also highlighted India’s broader technology ambitions, including its push across the full AI stack and its focus on efficient, affordable AI models with real economic impact.

On January 20, Vaishnaw had countered IMF chief's claim that India was in the second tier in terms of AI preparedness. The IT minister said India "clearly belonged in the first group".

"Actually, clearly in the first group, and the reason for that is there are five layers in the AI architecture — application layer, model layer, chip layer, infra layer and energy layer," the minister said. "We are working on all the five layers, making very good progress in all the five layers."
