Kinetic Green had earlier stated that it is planning to invest Rs 100 crore to manufacture the e-Luna, which the company claims will cater to passenger and last-mile delivery demands

The Kinetic Luna, an iconic moped in the 1970 and 80s, is finally making a comeback albeit in an electric avatar. Nearly a fortnight after commencing the bookings of the e-Luna, Kinetic Green Energy and Power solutions will be rolling out the batter-powered moped in Delhi on February 7.

Estimated to be priced in the range of Rs 71,000-Rs 75,000, the moped will be available in both B2B and B2C configurations.

“Reservations for e-Luna will open on January 26 and the vehicle will go on sale the following month, clearing the way for the resurgence of the Luna brand — this time in an electric form — more than 50 years after its first introduction,” company had earlier said.

Sulajja Firodia Motwani, founder and CEO, Kinetic Green, told Moneycontrol that the company is aiming to achieve sales of 1 lakh units of this model during FY 2024-25. She revealed that it will be a highly indegenised product, with everything barring battery cells, being built in the country.

Kinetic Green had earlier stated that it is planning to invest Rs 100 crore to manufacture the e-Luna, which the company claims will cater to passenger and last-mile delivery demands and has the potential to be a “multipurpose vehicle”. Motwani stated that the e-Luna is suitable for all parts of the country, and that smaller places and even Tier II and III cities are switching to EVs.

“The e-Luna will be a low-cost, user-friendly, practical, and lightweight electric moped, which will retain the design elements of the earlier avatar of the petrol Luna. It will be tailored to suit the needs of delivery boys. It will have a top speed of 50 kmph, with battery options of 2 kWh and 3 kWh, with a range of 100 km and 150 km, respectively, “ Motwani had earlier told Moneycontrol in an exclusive interaction.

Separately, Motwani had told PTI recently that the timing of the introduction is "absolutely right" in terms of the brand, the product, the economy, and the price.

In her view, the company has seen "good traction" on both passenger and last-mile segments of the e-moped.

"We have deployed about 1,500 vehicles for last-mile delivery in a pilot stage and we think we will get very good response from this segment as well. We are also going to sign an MoU for a very large quantity very soon," she stated.
