Wipro saw reduction of 114 employees in the first quarter ended June 30, as the IT services company continues to reassess its lateral and campus hiring models amid tough business environment.

Sequentially, the attrition rate increased to 15.1 percent for the last-twelve-month (LTM) basis. In Q4FY26, attrition stood at 15%. The total headcount stood at 233,232.

Earlier, the management had said that for FY26, though Wipro aims to hire a similar number from campuses, the company will take a call after observing the current business environment which has been reeling under macroeconomic uncertainties.

As of Q1, the firm's peers Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) added 5,090 employees, HCLTech lost 269 employees and Tech Mahindra lost about 622 employees. Despite the marginal decline in headcount, HCLTech onboarded 1,984 freshers in the reported quarter.

On July 17, Wipro reported 11% rise in consolidated net profit at Rs 3,330 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2025.

The firm's consolidated revenue from operations rose marginally to Rs 22,135 crore in Q1FY26 as against Rs 21,964 crore in Q1FY25.

The company's large deal booking grew by 131 percent YoY to $2.7 billion, while overall deal bookings stood at $5 billion.

Srini Pallia, CEO and Managing Director, said, “In a quarter shaped by macroeconomic uncertainty, clients prioritised efficiency and cost optimization. We partnered closely with them to address these needs, resulting in 16 large deals, including two mega deals."

"Building on the momentum from last quarter and supported by a strong pipeline, we are well positioned for the second half. AI is no longer experimental - it’s central to our clients’ strategies, and we are delivering real impact at scale," he added.

The firm declared interim dividend of Rs 5 per share.

On July 17, Wipro Ltd shares on NSE closed 1.5% lower at Rs 258.75 apiece.
