PM Narendra Modi is set to take part in the inaugural session of the India AI Impact Summit 2026 today, where he will deliver the opening address in the presence of around 20 heads of state.
He will personally receive the visiting leaders at the venue, Bharat Mandapam, and a group photograph is scheduled for approximately 9:15 am. The formal inauguration of the summit will begin around 9:40 am, with the Prime Minister's address slated for about 10:25 am.
Wednesday marked a busy schedule for the PM Modi, during which he conducted nine bilateral engagements with global leaders and business executives. He met representatives from Spain, Finland, Serbia, Croatia, Estonia, Kazakhstan and Bhutan on the sidelines of the summit.
In addition, he held separate discussions with Sundar Pichai and Vinod Khosla, co-founder of Sun Microsystems.
The India AI Impact Summit 2026, underway in Delhi from February 16 to 20, is the first global AI summit to be hosted in the Global South.
The event has drawn policymakers, AI industry specialists, academics, technology innovators and representatives from civil society worldwide to deepen international dialogue on artificial intelligence.
The summit seeks to examine AI's transformative possibilities in line with India's vision of "Sarvajana Hitaya, Sarvajana Sukhaya" (welfare for all, happiness for all), while reinforcing the broader global objective of promoting AI for the benefit of humanity.
Earlier on Wednesday, French President Emmanuel Macron, who is attending the summit in India, posted an AI-generated image with PM Modi on his official X account, captioned: "When friends connect, innovation follows. Ready for The AI Impact Summit!" The image itself carried the line, "Yes, it is AI."
The summit has seen strong participation from Europe, with 11 countries - including France, the Netherlands, Spain, Estonia and Switzerland - represented at the level of heads of state or government.
In total, 26 European nations are taking part, with 12 represented at the ministerial level.
