Infosys CEO and MD Salil Parekh has denied any detainment or deportation of employee by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in the US. His clarification comes amid a viral post circulating on X platform claiming an on-site employee of the IT firm was held and given two hours to decide to return to India.

Speaking at Infosys’ Q3 earnings conference on January 14, Parekh clarified, “No Infosys employee has been apprehended by any US authority. A few months ago, one of our employees was denied entry into US and was sent back to India.”

What happened to the on-site employee?

An X post, published on January 13 by a user named Chetan Anantharamu, started getting widely circulated that claimed a Mysuru-based Infosys employee in the US on a project, got picked up by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and given two hours to pack up and leave.

Anantharamu said that the employee was given two choices by the authorities – “Either go to jail or get deported.”

According to the post, once the employee decided to return to India, he was escorted by the agents to ensure he boarded the flight to India via Frankfurt. On the flight too, the employee was humiliated with a public announcement saying he shouldn’t be allowed to escape once flight reached Frankfurt.

The same announcement repeated on his flight back to Bengaluru.

“Infosys lawyers showed up at the Bengaluru airport to receive the employee and take him home. Infosys plans to sue the ICE agents in the US,” the post said.

As things stand, Parekh, dismissed claims of any employee being detained by the US authorities in recent times.

Revenue at India's second-largest IT services provider rose 8.9% to Rs 45,479 crore in the October-December period.

"Infosys delivered a strong Q3 performance, demonstrating how our differentiated value propositions in enterprise AI, through Infosys Topaz, are consistently driving higher market share.

This has helped them unlock business potential and enhance value realisation. Central to this journey is our commitment to re-skill, transform and empower our dedicated human resource pool to drive success in an AI augmented world," Parekh said.
