Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday asserted that his government introduced major reforms on the ground while delivering his 11th Independence Day speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort.
PM Modi said that the reforms introduced by his government in the last 10 years were driven by a commitment to strengthen the nation rather than to garner temporary praise or favourable editorials in business newspapers.
In his, he emphasised the gravity of the responsibility entrusted to his government. "We were given a huge responsibility and we introduced major reforms on the ground," he stated, underscoring that these reforms are not merely for show or for the appeasement of critics.
"Our commitment to reforms is not limited to pink paper editorials," the Prime Minister said. "Our commitment to reforms is not for a few days of appreciation. Our reform procedure is not under any compulsions, it is with the intention of strengthening the country," he added, making it clear that these reforms are aimed at the long-term development of the nation.

PM Modi further explained that the reform process undertaken by his government is not a reaction to external pressures. Instead, he described it as a "blueprint of growth," indicating that these changes are part of a broader strategy to propel India's economic development.
"This reform, this growth, this change is not just a matter of discussion for debate clubs, intellectual societies, and experts," he remarked.
"We did not do this for political compulsions...we have just one resolve - Nation First," he declared in his longest Independence Day speech at 98 minutes as he addressed the country from the ramparts of historic Red Fort.
