Eli Lilly and Company (India) has partnered with Apollo Health and Lifestyle and Apollo HealthCo,  both part of the Apollo Hospitals group, to launch a nationwide initiative aimed at raising awareness and improving care for obesity and type 2 diabetes — two of India’s most pressing public health challenges.

A press release announcing said the partnership will span over 200 Apollo clinics and involve 300 medical practitioners, focussing on patient education, healthcare provider training, and infrastructure development to support early diagnosis and evidence-based management of these chronic conditions.

“This partnership reflects our shared commitment to support people living with obesity and type 2 diabetes,” said Winselow Tucker, President and GM of Lilly India. “We aim to make a meaningful impact on how these diseases are understood and managed.”

In March this year, Lilly  launched its blockbuster weight loss drug Mounjaro in India.

India’s obesity burden is rising sharply. According to Apollo’s latest “Health of the Nation” report, 49 percent of women and 55 percent of men under 40 are obese, with the numbers climbing to 73 and 65 percent, respectively, in the 40–55 age group. Obesity is a major risk factor for type 2 diabetes and is linked to over 200 health complications, including cardiovascular disease and sleep apnea.

“This collaboration marks the beginning of a long-term commitment to transforming obesity and diabetes care in India," said Sangita Reddy, Joint MD of the Apollo Hospitals.

The initiative will also focus on building digital and physical infrastructure to support scalable, tech-enabled care models. The goal is to create a replicable framework that can be deployed across India to improve outcomes and reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases.
