RCom says Q3 performance 'satisfying'

The company‘s focus on profitable minutes, instead of “free” minutes that telecom companies liberally offer to consumers paid off for the business, Singh said, pointing to the improvement in the company‘s operating profit, which jumped 11.6 percent.

Reliance Communications’ performance in the third quarter, in which it logged a 2.7 percent profit growth year-on-year along with a 1.9 percent rise in revenue, was “satisfying”, President & CEO (Wireless) Gurdeep Singh said.

The company’s focus on profitable minutes, instead of “free” minutes that telecom companies liberally offer to consumers paid off for the business, Singh said, pointing to the improvement in the company’s operating profit.

“Our EBITDA has grown by 11.6 percent and now stands at now stands at Rs 1,845 crore versus Rs 1,653 crore.”

Reliance Communications has focused on data in a big way and attracted a lot of users when it cut 3G data plan prices (1GB) to price it at half of other carriers. The company claims it has the highest number of 3G customers in the country.

RCom has a good mix of customers from across urban and semi urban customers, Singh said, adding that the mix helped it outperform peers in the previous (second) quarter.
