Tata Group firm Voltas is looking for a double digit growth in the aircondition segment as the company is expecting a longer and severe summers this year along with pent-up-demands from the consumers.

Besides, Voltas would also focus on the growth of the air-cooler segment as it is expecting to sell five lakh units by FY18.

The company which launched power saving range of All Star AC and all weather AC is expecting that the new products would help Voltas to grow its volumes in room airconditioning segment.

"This category is to grow about 10 percent...for brand Voltas we have been always outgrowing the industry numbers in last many years. Through our new range of products as split airconditioners and window ACs we would continue to grow more than the industry," Voltas President and Chief Operating Officer Pradeep Bakshi said.

The company gets 73 percent sales from split AC and rest 27 percent from traditional widows AC.

Voltas has product line-up of over 150 variants of split AC.

"Our 54 percent sales of AC comes from tier-II and III places and rest comes from metro markets," Bakshi added.

On being asked whether the unseasonal rains in Northern India in the month of March when season starts, would affect AC sales, Bakshi said:" I am hopeful that the summer is going to be till June and July and we would makeup for this loss hopefully".

Last year the AC market has degrown by about 5 to 10 percent as per the primary summer estimates, he added.

"There is a pent-up demand because of last two years of unseasonal rains and unpredictable weather, people did not buy. People are looking to buy because of pent-up demand as well severe summers this category is slightly to grow about 10 percent," Bakshi said.

In the aircooler segment, in which Voltas forayed last year, it is aiming to be among leading players in next three years and has a range of seven desert coolers, three personal coolers and one window cooler.

"This year we would have around one lakh units and in coming year we are just looking to doubling the sales. Right now it is at its nascent stage. It is a focus category for us," he said, adding that the company was gathering consumer insights and improving the products.

Voltas has a network of 12,000 channel partners across India and is expanding it further.
