Smartphone maker Vivo expands ZEISS partnership under new imaging strategy

Chinese smartphone maker Vivo has unveiled a scenario-based integrated imaging ecosystem, designed for specific situations, as part of its 30th anniversary celebrations, aiming to improve night photography, portraits, telephoto and video, while expanding into health and cross-device applications.

Yu Meng, Vice President of Imaging at Vivo said the company plans to make professional imaging capabilities more accessible, and offer imaging security, medical use cases and immersive creation. Vivo is also the first Chinese smartphone brand to join the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), ensuring its imaging features support traceability, tamper-resistance, and recognizability, to protect the content.

In healthcare, Vivo plans to combine the Telephoto Macro technology of its X200 series with medical-grade optics, to develop a portable slit lamp for ophthalmic diagnostics. The company is also enhancing cross-device imaging experiences, including 3D imaging on the X100 Ultra, 60 fps spatial video on the X200 Ultra, and the debut of the Vision Discovery Edition.

Vivo has had a global imaging partnership with ZEISS for six years.

“The collaboration between vivo and ZEISS is both deep and broad, transcending hardware or software solutions,” said André Kutz, Head of ZEISS Photonics & Optics. “We look forward to deepening and broadening our collaboration to enable intuitive and creative use of mobile imaging technologies by millions worldwide.”

Vivo will also continue advancing its self-developed imaging stack, integrating chips, sensors, and algorithms. Its VS1 pre-processing chip works with the V3+ imaging chip for improved efficiency in complex scenarios, while new large-model algorithms, such as AI Photo Enhance, improve clarity at high zoom.

The company also shared advances in image restoration, 30x telephoto performance and next-generation texture rendering to deliver sharper, more lifelike results.
