Big CBS, the joint venture between Anil Ambani owned Reliance Broadcast Network and US-based CBS Studios International, which runs three English language TV channels in India, is expanding in the regional space with the planned launch of a Punjabi TV channel.

The channel, Spark Punjabi, will be the joint venture's fourth TV channel India, following the launch of Big CBS Prime, Big CBS Love and Big CBS Spark.

"Spark Punjabi is a category creator, positioned as the first international Punjabi channel and will launch on January 14, 2012. Targeting the 15+ audience, the channel will feature the best of CBS content all dubbed in Punjabi," the company said on Tuesday.

Spark Punjabi will be distributed across digital and analog platforms and will be available across Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh.

Apart from 78% TV penetration, 88% cable and satellite penetration, Big CBS feels it is the potential Rs 1,200 crore advertising pie, which creates an exciting opportunity for this platform.

"India's booming regional TV industry with limited regional entertainment options is an opportunity that we are leveraging," said Tarun Katial, CEO, Reliance Broadcast Network.

Shares of Reliance Broadcast Network were up 2.3% at Rs 49.70 on NSE in morning trade on Tuesday.
