On analyzing the aspiration level of women to reach the leadership position, it was observed that 87 percent women professionals aspire to hold a leadership role compared to 78 percent men professionals.

56 percent of organisations in India have just 10-30 percent women in leadership roles, according to a report by All India Management Association (AIMA) prepared in collaboration with KPMG in India.

The "Women Leadership in Corporate India 2024" report revealed that more than 9 percent organisations in India do not have any women occupying leadership roles. Further, 12 percent organisations are sailing through with more than 50 percent women in leadership roles.

On analyzing the aspiration level of women to reach the leadership position, it was observed that 87 percent women professionals aspire to hold a leadership role compared to 78 percent men professionals.

Interestingly, while 51 percent of organisations have achieved diversity at the CEO/CXO level, the remaining 49 percent are yet to catch up. This indicates progress, but there's still room for improvement in ensuring gender diversity in leadership positions across organisations.

The survey considers perspectives from professionals across industries on five key aspects: the current representation of women in leadership roles, the aspirations and challenges women face in their leadership journeys, the effectiveness of leadership development programs for women, the availability of opportunities and fairness of evaluation systems for women leaders, and the strength of diversity and inclusion efforts within organizations.

“The Indian corporate landscape is transforming. The report findings reveal that while challenges remain, the progress achieved in terms of number of organizations having strong women leadership representation is encouraging. Robust mentorship and sponsorship programmes, flexible work policies and embracing 'returnship' programmes will help women re-integrate into the workforce and invigorate their leadership journey,” said Yezdi Nagporewalla, CEO of KPMG in India.
