The BJP on October 20 released a list of 40 campaigners for the upcoming Mizoram assembly elections.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP chief J P Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are among the star campaigners for the BJP. Earlier this week, the saffron party had released the names of the candidates for 21 assembly seats in the state, where elections are scheduled for November 7.
The party released the names of 23 candidates, including the Speaker of the outgoing House and several others who joined the party from the ruling MNF recently.

The majority of the nominees are new faces, while four of these contestants are women. The last date for filing nominations is October 20. According to the Business Standard, BJP state president Vanlalhmuaka said the party is not hesitant to forge a post-poll alliance with any other outfit except the Congress.
Assembly Speaker Lalrinliana Sailo, who quit the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) recently and joined the BJP, will contest from the Mamit seat.
The state assembly, consisting of 40 seats, will see a single phase of voting. The results of the election will be declared on December 3. The current assembly, led by Chief Minister Zoramthanga, is set to conclude its term on December 17.
Mizo National Front (MNF), Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are vying for victory in the state. The MNF secured 18 seats in 2018. In its debut in 2018, ZPM secured eight seats, surpassing even the Congress. The BJP had contested 39 seats in the 2018 elections and won one seat. The MNF already named its candidates for all 40 constituencies. The ZPM and the Congress also did the same.
