Assembly Election Results 2023: The Congress needs to put in place a comprehensive strategy to take on PM Modi and the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections.

As the Bharatiya Janata Party has emerged a clear winner in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, the Congress has called for the next INDIA alliance meeting on December 6.

According to news agency ANI, the party’s national president Mallikarjun Kharge dialled alliance partners for a meeting in Delhi.

Leaders of the opposition INDIA bloc will meet at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's residence in Delhi on December 6 to chalk out a strategy for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, sources said.

During the meeting, which will be held in the evening, the leaders are likely to discuss and finalise their plan to take on the BJP ahead of the polls, they said. Amid the disappointing outcomes for the Congress party, alliance partner Omar Abdullah has questioned the chances of the INDIA bloc to succeed in the 2024 general elections. He said in an interview to PTI, “If this situation continues INDIA alliance won’t win the 2024 elections.”

Congress was awaiting the results of assembly elections in five states — Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram — before finalising further strategy plans. Votes for the Mizoram assembly elections will be counted on December 4. Earlier, TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, too, had questioned the Congress leadership for its poor performance in the Hindi heartlands.

At least 26 parties have come together as part of the INDIA bloc to take on BJP in the general elections and have so far held three rounds of deliberations in Patna, Bengaluru, and Mumbai. The sources said the opposition leaders would now plan joint rallies that were put on hold due to the assembly elections.
