It delivered a decisive blow to the Aam Aadmi Party in a sweeping victory that further expands its saffron footprint across the country. The BJP secured 48 out of 70 seats, while AAP was reduced to just 22. The Congress, once a dominant force in Delhi, drew a blank for the third consecutive assembly election. AAP veteran and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was defeated in Jangpura, while party supremo Arvind Kejriwal also lost New Delhi.

The BJP has secured a majority in the Delhi Assembly elections. Party leaders and workers celebrated their victory across the national capital, with their counterparts in other states also joining in. AAP’s top leaders, including national convenor and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Saurabh Bharadwaj and Satyendar Jain, have lost their elections. Kejriwal lost the high-profile New Delhi seat to BJP’s Parvesh Verma by a margin of 4,089 votes. The Bharatiya Janata Party is poised to form a government in Delhi after more than 26 years.

Additionally, the liquor policy scandal and corruption allegations led to arrests of key AAP leaders, including Kejriwal and Sisodia, keeping the party in crisis mode. With the BJP all set to form the government in Delhi after 27 years, it has not only marked a rejection of Kejriwal's leadership but has also potentially dismantled the AAP's ambitions of becoming a pan-Indian alternative to the BJP.

On the last day of campaigning for the February 5 polls, Kejriwal addressed a rally in south Delhi's Chhatarpur and urged people to vote for the AAP.
