Karwa Chauth is no longer confined to fasting and rituals. It now unfolds over multiple days of celebrations, with women gathering for pre-fasting parties filled with food, fun, music, and dance.
There’s something magical about Karwa Chauth, an intoxicating mix of tradition, colour, devotion and, let’s be honest, a good dose of glamour. But between the mehendi, music and midnight moon-gazing, your makeup has to survive more than just a few hours. With rising energy levels, it’s time to make your look last. “With all the excitement, makeup tends to fade faster than our energy,” says Dr. Blossom Kochhar, Pioneer in Aromatherapy and Founder of the Blossom Kochhar Group of Companies. “And that’s the last thing you need when you’re trying to enjoy the occasion.”
The dance of devotion and beauty doesn’t have to end in a smudged mess. From priming like a pro to blotting like a queen, these makeup hacks ensure your glam game stays strong. Kochhar suggests how:
Start with a clean slate: Begin by cleansing thoroughly. Apply a lightweight, oil-free moisturiser to keep skin hydrated without adding greasiness. “Layering begins with skin prep,” Dr. Kochhar shares. “A mattifying primer, especially around the T-zone, will lock down the base and reduce shine before it starts.”
Skip heavy foundations: Your face needs to breathe during high-energy celebrations. Swap heavy, full-coverage foundations for sweat-resistant or light formulas. “Less is more,” advises Dr. Kochhar. “Apply concealer only where you really need it and set with a translucent powder for a natural finish that won’t melt.”
Waterproof for the eyes: Opt for waterproof kajal, eyeliner and mascara. Add a hint of eyeshadow over your eyeliner to help it set better. “This simple trick prevents smudging, no matter how fun you have,” says Dr. Kochhar.
Blot, don’t wipe: Sweat happens. But wiping ruins all the effort. Carry blotting paper or soft tissues to dab gently. “It keeps makeup intact while absorbing excess oil,” she explains.
Matte lips that stay: With selfies, sips, and snacks, lip colour has its own battle to fight. Creamy lipsticks may wear off too soon. “Choose matte or long-wear liquid lipsticks,” Dr. Kochhar recommends. “They don’t budge and will see you through every dance and dessert.”
Set it, forget it: Before heading out, mist your face with a good makeup setting spray. It seals the layers and keeps the look fresh. “It’s like hairspray for your face—but gentler,” says Dr. Kochhar.
Keep touch-up tools handy: A compact powder and your lip colour are all you need to carry. A quick dab here, a swipe there, and you’re back to glowing goddess mode in seconds.
