In most Indian homes, the pooja room isn’t just a corner but it’s considered as the most sacred part of house. And with the festive season around the corner, families are once again reimagining their sacred spaces, looking for ways to make them not only spiritual but also visually stunning.
One material that’s making a big comeback in décor trends is brass. With its golden sheen and cultural symbolism, brass infuses any pooja room with an aura of understated luxury.
Sheen and shine
The appeal of brass lies in its versatility., For instance, the glow of diyas bouncing against brass idols or panels can instantly turn a prayer session into a serene, almost theatrical experience. From handcrafted diyas and idols to clean-lined shelves and backdrops, brass adapts to both Indian and contemporary tastes.

Chander Goyal, Managing Director, Luxeartisanship, believes brass creates the perfect devotional ambiance. He mentions, “Incorporating brass items idols add timeless elegance and spiritual warmth in the pooja room. For creating a rich devotional ambiance, we often include handcrafted brass idols, diyas, and bells. Subdued elegance can be provided by brass inlays on wooden doors or wall panels."
He adds, "For a more contemporary vibe, a brass backdrop for the deity can be used, or you can consider floating brass shelves for the essential items. Shine has to be balanced by serenity, where the artwork is brightly lit to make it a sacred focal point that feels traditional yet refined.”
For festive-ready styling, think beyond the usual brass lamps. Pair your brass diyas with strings of fresh marigolds, place a shimmering urli filled with flowers and floating candles at the entrance, or add a modern touch with geometric brass wall art behind your idol. If you prefer a minimalist look, even a single statement brass bell or a tall floor-standing lamp can set the mood.

Another way to bring in warmth in your pooja set up is by mixing materials. Brass against white marble creates a rich yet calming contrast, while brass shelves paired with wooden backdrops add earthy sophistication.
If you’re going all out for Diwali or Navratri, layering brass with silk drapes, incense holders, and flower garlands creates that celebratory aura of abundance and devotion. But while brass is undeniably beautiful, it needs care to retain its glow. Goyal shares a few simple tips to keep it shining.
He says, “Brass, when maintained properly, can continue to look beautiful for generations. Keeping the brass elements in the pooja room bright and lasting forever is a matter of regular upkeep; again, just a simple wipe with a soft cloth should suffice to clean off dust and grime. Avoid harsh chemicals that can damage the finish. Lastly, keep things dry to keep off tarnishing, especially in humid climates.”
