Ganesh Chaturthi, the colourful Hindu festival, is celebrated to welcome Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed god of wisdom and prosperity. It marks the birth of Lord Ganesha and is observed with much enthusiasm. The festival typically lasts for ten days, beginning on the fourth day of the Hindu lunar month of Bhadrapada. It involves bringing Ganesha idols at homes and pandals, performing elaborate rituals, and participating in cultural activities.
Decking up in traditional attire is an integral part of the celebrations, adding to the festive spirit. Says Saurav Bansal, owner of Aanchal Store in Chandigarh, “This season, there’s a significant demand for intricate zardozi work, aari embroidery, and traditional gota patti embellishments. Organza fabrics are particularly popular, with shimmer organza, crush organza, and tissue organza making a strong impression. While bright colours continue to be a staple during festivals, pastel shades are also trending this year.”
