Cannes 2025 will go down in history for the presence of two of India’s most formidable yesteryear actresses—Simi Garewal and Sharmila Tagore. They made a splash on the red carpet of the prestigious film festival, dressed in their signature styles: a classic white ensemble for Garewal and a timeless saree for Tagore.
Simi Garewal’s serene all-white look
Simi Garewal’s red carpet debut was much anticipated. Without a surprise, the timeless beauty wore a custom ensemble by Karleo that blended Indian craftsmanship with global aesthetics. Her freshwater pearl corset was styled with a voluminous skirt, elevated by stunning detailing. A high-low jacket added a modern touch. She completed the look with a statement necklace, enhancing the overall appearance.
Sharmila Tagore’s elegant green saree look
For her red carpet appearance, Sharmila Tagore chose a classic emerald green silk saree with a striking gold zari border. The saree was draped beautifully and exuded regal charm. The veteran actress carried a gold clutch and accessorised with dainty jewellery including a pendant, earrings, rings, and a watch. Her pink-toned makeup complemented the green hue of the saree perfectly.
Saba Pataudi shares BTS pictures
Saba Pataudi, daughter of Sharmila Tagore, shared several behind-the-scenes pictures taken before the main red carpet event. Dressed in a lovely yellow floral ensemble, she posed with her mother and Simi Garewal. The two actresses were also photographed together, making for a heartwarming reunion.
Alongside, Saba wrote: “Let the party begin....! Moments before the red carpet scene. In the midst of chaos was calm. Hectic yet happy. Frenzied and fantastic. And self-conscious. Mixed emotions coursing through—yet here is a chance to explore the NEW. Always start afresh. Believe in yourself and make the most of opportunities. They're here today. The future isn't here yet. :) Live it up.”
Reunion for the Screening of Aranyer Din Ratri
Sharmila Tagore and Simi Garewal were invited to the screening of their 1970 film Aranyer Din Ratri (Days and Nights in the Forest), directed by Satyajit Ray. Filmmaker Wes Anderson, an admirer of Ray’s work, introduced the movie before the screening.
