Bharti Singh, who has been part of several popular comedy shows on television, is no stranger to the public glare. Over the years, she has also hosted reality shows and award functions, requiring her to walk up on stage and entertain the audience. While she comes across as confident and carefree while performing, she recently shared how she still struggles with stage fright.
Talking to Raj Shamani, Bharti said, “I often end up crying backstage. I tell this to Haarsh (her husband) as well when we perform together at big shows where popular actors are present. My lips quiver, I don’t like anyone coming near me, even for touch-up. I go in a different zone.”
However, her mindset changes as soon as she is on stage and begins to perform. “As soon as I enter stage, within 10 seconds, I don’t see anyone as popular. I feel they are all mine. Their laughter and cheer works like Red Bull for me. I don’t know which power works within me when I am on stage. Things I am not able to learn on paper, I perform well on stage.”
Bharti revealed that this has been the case since her childhood. Even today, she admits to feeling nervous in the car if she has to perform a scene with Amitabh Bachchan, wondering what she’ll say and how she’ll pull it off. Yet, somehow, it always goes well in the end.
The popular comedian also spoke about returning to set just 12 days after her delivery. While people trolled her, saying, “Paise ki kitni bhookhi hai (She is greedy for money),” Bharti explained, “I felt I would be in pain if I stayed at home, but I knew I’d be happy on stage. I did everything I had to and had a lot of support. Also, it was the men who trolled me for returning to work, not women.”
Bharti Singh was last seen as a host on Laughter Chefs – Unlimited Entertainment. She is also a popular YouTuber and shares tidbits of her life in vlogs, which have come to be loved by many across the country.
