Ameesha Patel is known for her love of luxury bags, which she earlier spoke about in Farah Khan’s YouTube video. Recently, in a podcast with Ranveer Allahbadia, she opened up about her obsession with the Birkin bag, including her most expensive purchase from the brand, and explained how she takes care of them in Mumbai’s humid weather.

Ameesha’s love for luxury bags

Ameesha, who has often confessed to loving luxury bags, said it has been a part of her DNA. “I have been fond of bags since I was 16. I don’t have kids, so I have bags. I come from a well-dressed family, and they love their accessories. I was no different. I’d carry matching shoes and bags, comb my hair, spray perfume, and sit pretty. I was very feminine. Life made me more masculine,” she said.

Unsurprisingly, the actress added, “Even my school bags were Moschino and Louis Vuitton when they were not even available in India.” Back in the day, she would also borrow bags from her mom and aunts.

However, Ameesha said her luxury designer bags are not meant for showing off. While picking them, she opts for “the craftsmanship, the quality, and the uniqueness” rather than its logo plastered everywhere. She shared her fascination with not just the bags, but also the designers, their history and evolution.

“Birkin is the Rolls Royce of all bags”

When asked why people are obsessed with a Birkin, Ameesha explained, it “is the Rolce Royce of all bags. It has numerous prices; it depends on leather, hardware, and size. If you have normal leather and hardware, it can start from Rs 13-15 lakh.”

“Interesting fact, I can sell a Birkin bag for double its price. It’s almost like an investment. In Japan, you can take a bank loan and give a Birkin as collateral, that is the prestige of the bag.”

How she takes care of her bags

The actress said it’s particularly hard to take care of leather bags and shoes in Mumbai, though her staff is now trained to handle them. She uses airing, leather wipes, leather polishing, and sun exposure to take care of her prized possessions. She jokingly compared the process to massaging babies and taking them out in the sun. She added that her staff also cleans the shelves once every month.

Ameesha favourite bag

For Ameesha, it is her pink croc Birkin with silver hardware, which she calls an all-time favourite. She described it as the most valuable and expensive bag from her collection, and also the one that’s a head-turner.
