The Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC) will close the online application window for 7996 Lekhpal vacancies today, January 28. Candidates who have not yet submitted their forms are urged to visit the official portal, upsssc.gov.in, immediately to complete the process.

This recruitment drive, a significant opportunity for government job seekers in the state, follows a revised selection pattern and syllabus that has introduced several key changes compared to the previous cycle.

Category-Wise Vacancy Breakdown

The Commission has detailed the distribution of the 7996 posts across reserved and unreserved categories:

  • Unreserved: 3205 Posts
  • Scheduled Castes (SC): 1679 Posts
  • Scheduled Tribes (ST): 160 Posts
  • Other Backward Classes (OBC): 2158 Posts
  • Economically Weaker Section (EWS): 792 Posts

In a shift from the previous pattern, the UPSSSC has completely revamped the syllabus for the Lekhpal written examination. The changes aim to modernize the assessment and align it with current administrative needs.

Key Syllabus Changes for 2026 Recruitment:

Mathematics Removed: In a significant move, Mathematics has been dropped from the syllabus entirely.

New Subjects Introduced: Computer & Information Technology (15 marks) and Uttar Pradesh General Knowledge (20 marks) are now included as dedicated sections.

Reduced Weightage for Hindi: The marks for General Hindi have been reduced from 25 to 10.

Introduction of Data Interpretation: While Maths is removed, Data Interpretation (DI) will carry 10 marks.

Drastic Change in Rural Society: The weightage for Rural Society and Development has been significantly reduced to just 5 marks, down from 50 marks (25 each for Rural Society and Rural Development) in the 2022 recruitment.

Eligibility for this recruitment is contingent on having a valid scorecard from the UPSSSC Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET). Shortlisting for the main written exam will be based on candidates' normalized PET scores.

With millions of applications anticipated, the cut-off score for the main exam is a primary concern. Experts analyzing previous trends suggest that the cut-off is likely to remain stable, given the similar number of vacancies (8085 posts in 2022 vs. 7996 now).

Eligibility, Fee and Selection Process

Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed the Intermediate (12th) examination.

Application Fee: A nominal fee of Rs 25 is applicable for all categories. Payment can be made via UPI or SBI e-challan.

Bonus Marks: Weightage will be given to candidates who have served in the Territorial Army for at least two years or possess an NCC 'B' certificate.

Final Selection: The merit list for final appointment will be prepared based on the marks obtained in the main written examination, following the official normalization formula applied by UPSSSC.

Prospective candidates are advised to act swiftly before the application portal closes and to begin their preparation according to the newly notified syllabus for the UP Lekhpal 2026 recruitment.
