Step 1: Start with a few dates. They are naturally sweet and packed with fibre, which is food for the good bacteria in our gut.

Step 2: Slice them open and remove the pits. This makes the perfect pocket for a healthy filling.

Step 3: Add a spoonful of natural peanut butter. The protein and healthy fats help balance the natural sugar in the dates.

Step 4: Sprinkle in ground flaxseed powder. It adds fibre, omega-3s, and an extra boost for gut and heart health.

Step 5: Close them up and chill for 10-15 minutes. You will have chewy, nutrient-packed bites you can grab anytime.

In one of his previous posts, the board-certified gastroenterologist also shared some gut-healthy fruits and snacks he consumes for bowel regularity. These include:

Kiwi: Studies show it improves stool frequency and softens stools due to their unique fibre and actinidin enzyme.

Greek yogurt: Packed with probiotics that feed healthy gut bacteria, it also serves as a great source of protein and calcium.

Almonds and nuts: Half a cup of almonds contains 15 g protein and 8 g fibre; they help produce butyrate, a short-chain fatty acid that fuels colon cells.

Hummus and veggie sticks: Chickpea-based hummus delivers both fibre and protein, feeding your good gut bacteria. Veggies add more fibre.

Berries and walnuts: Blueberries contain antioxidants and fibre, while walnuts add omega-3s and promote butyrate, which lowers gut inflammation.
