Black tea is among the most popular beverages in the world, appreciated for its bold flavour and energy lift. It is filled with antioxidants and natural compounds that have a positive impact on the diet when eaten in moderation. The drink, however, has its upsides and downsides to the body as any other drink, depending on the dosage and how often you drink it.

Black tea is produced from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, and it comes fully oxidized to give it its deep colour and bold flavour. It’s loaded with caffeine and polyphenols, as well as other bioactive compounds that specifically interact with digestion, metabolism and general health. It can be a nice alternative to sugary beverages and a good source of quick energy, but when consumed in excess, it can cause problems like dehydration, digestive upset and sleep troubles.
