Liver plays an important role in the body, performing functions that range from flushing out toxins to storing vital nutrients. It’s one of the most vital body organs and hence, keeping its health in check is necessary.

  • Constant Fatigue And Weakness

Chronic fatigue is an early sign of an overworked or damaged liver. Despite getting a full night's sleep, it's crucial to pay attention if you wake up feeling exhausted. The liver generates energy by storing glucose and aids in cleansing. However, you can feel worn out if it is not operating optimally. Reportedly, studies confirm fatigue as a common symptom of liver disease.

  • Digestive Issues

Digestive issues like abdominal bloating, pain, nausea, or loss of appetite can indicate liver dysfunction and should not be overlooked. This indicates the liver is not producing enough bile necessary for breaking down fats. This leads to uneasiness after meals or indigestion problems. Digestive issues, along with other symptoms, can indicate liver stress.

  • Itchy Skin

Without rashes, itchy skin is a clear indicator of liver disease. Irritation results from the liver's inability to filter toxins that accumulate in the blood. If it gets worse at night, it’s a common symptom of cholestasis, where bile flow is hindered. If itching persists, it’s best to consult a doctor and get liver tests done.

  • Yellowing Skin or Eyes

Jaundice, which results in yellowing of the skin or eyes, is a symptom clearly linked to liver illness. This happens when bilirubin, a yellow pigment produced by the breakdown of red blood cells, cannot be processed by the liver. Jaundice can also be a sign of hepatitis or cirrhosis. Medical supervision is advised if yellowing eyes or skin are accompanied by dark urine or pale stools.

  • Bruising or Bleeding

Bruises on the body should not be overlooked, just as nose bleeding, as they indicate liver stress. The liver produces proteins for blood clotting, but when it doesn’t function properly, it leads to bruising and bleeding even from minor cuts. It needs medical intervention, especially in cases of fatty liver disease.
