Writer Rohit Dawesar has announced that he will no longer be associated with Dhurandhar 2, the sequel featuring Ranveer Singh and Akshay Kumar. Dawesar shared the update on Instagram, calling it an "official statement" and apologising to people who were rooting for his involvement. In the caption, he also urged followers to check the reel for more details.

In the note posted on his story, Dawesar wrote, "Not a part of Ranveer, Akshay's DHURANDHAR 2 anymore.

After lots of discussions with the producer, director and creative team of the successful film, I am not playing BADE SAHAB anymore.

As my first short film (as an actor, writer, director) released yesterday, they (when I was asleep) wanted me to play the role, and I had to refuse it due to dates problem and coz the movie was already into post production.

Apologies to my fans and friends!"

The writer-actor added that the decision came after multiple conversations with the team and was not presented as a fallout. Instead, his explanation pointed to practical constraints, particularly scheduling and the film already being in post-production, which left little room for a new actor to step in for the role.

Dawesar's post triggered a wave of reactions in the comments, with several users trying to decode what exactly changed. One follower asked if he was the Bade Sahab in Dhurandhar 2. Replying directly, Dawesar wrote, "I wish. But sadly only in my dream," suggesting that the speculation around his casting may have travelled faster than any formal announcement.

While the makers of Dhurandhar 2 have not commented on Dawesar's statement, the update is notable because it offers a rare peek into how casting conversations can remain fluid even late in the process. The mention of post-production indicates the sequel is already deep into finishing work, where changes can become expensive, time-consuming, and creatively disruptive.

For Dawesar, the moment also doubles as a plug for his newer work. By referencing his first short film as an actor, writer, and director, he signalled a shift toward projects where he is building his own slate rather than waiting for roles in larger franchises. The post has now set expectations clearly for his followers and for chatter online.
