Veteran actresses Jaya Prada and Sridevi were two of the most celebrated actresses in Indian cinema during the late 1970s and 1980s. While they were often compared for their beauty and talent, their off-screen relationship was famously cold.

They had frequently collaborated for multiple projects but reportedly maintained a professional distance and rarely spoke to each other on set. Jaya Prada and Sridevi’s rivalry was well-known in the industry, with directors like Jeetendra trying to break the ice between them.

Jeetendra locked Sridevi and Jaya Prada in a make-up room

During a 2021 episode of Indian Idol, Jaya Parda revealed that Jeetendra was fed up of their feud. He and Rajesh Khanna tried to end the feud between Sridevi and Jaya Prada. During the shooring of Maqsad, they locked the two actresses in a makeup room for an hour, forcing them to interact and hopefully resolve their differences.

Despite being locked in the room, Sridevi and Jaya Prada remained stubborn, sitting with their backs to each other. Jaya Parda recalled, “I still remember during the shoot of the Maqsad film, Jeetu Ji and Rajesh Khanna Ji locked both of us in one makeup room for an hour... but we both did not even say a word and then the superstars of Bollywood gave up on us."

However, their long-standing feud finally came to an end in 2015 when Jaya Prada extended an olive branch by inviting Sridevi to her son's wedding.

Jaya Prada expressed regret over not mending her relationship with Sridevi

Jaya Prada publicly expressed regret over not being able to form a closer friendship with Sridevi after her demise. She reflected on her relationship and noted, "We never had eye contact with each other, even after being perfect sisters on screen. We both competed with each other, be it in dresses or dances.”

Jaya Prada admitted she missed Sridevi after her death and wished that they had a better friendship. She said, “When I got the news how she has left us in between, it still upsets me and I miss her a lot because I feel alone and through this platform, I would also like to say that if somewhere she is listening to me I would just say that 1 wish we could talk to each other.”

They collaborated on several projects, including Tohfa (1984), Maqsad (1984), Aulad (1987), and Main Tera Dushman (1989).
