Vijay Sethupathi's "Maharaja" surged past the ₹100 crore mark at the global box office, giving much-needed momentum to the Tamil film industry which has faced challenges in the first half of 2024. The film has emerged as a commercial success.

As reported by India Today, the trade website Sacnilk stated that "Maharaja" has secured its position as the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2024 so far. The film's domestic collections stand at approximately Rs 76 crore, while overseas markets have contributed Rs 24 crore.

This impressive total surpasses the previous record held by "Aranmanai 4," which concluded its theatrical run with a reported gross of Rs 99 crore (although the film's team disputes this figure). Analysts predict "Maharaja" to potentially reach Rs 105 crore by the time its theatrical run concludes.

Though enjoying a strong third week in theatres in India and amassing a commendable Rs 81 crore within the first ten days, "Maharaja" starring Vijay Sethupathi has faced a slowdown. The box office dominance of "Kalki 2898 AD" has impacted its initial momentum.

Maharaja also happens to be Vijay's 50th film in her stellar career.

Nevertheless, "Maharaja" continues to perform steadily and is projected to cross the prestigious Rs 100 crore mark soon. This achievement could potentially be Vijay Sethupathi's first film to reach this box office milestone.

In a market captivated by the phenomenal success of 'Kalki 2898 AD,' which has amassed a staggering Rs 600 crore globally within its first week, 'Maharaja' has nonetheless achieved a significant milestone. This accomplishment underscores the film's commercial strength, particularly considering the intense competition. Boasting a powerhouse cast featuring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone, 'Kalki 2898 AD' has established itself as a dominant force at the domestic and international box office.
