Veteran filmmaker, producer and cinematographer Gangu Ramsay passed away today (April 7). He was 83 and was battling health issues for the past month.
Ramsay Brothers were known for making horror films in Hindi. The news of his demise was informed by the family members as they issued a statement revealing that the veteran filmmaker was admitted in Kokilaben hospital. Gangu Ramsay was the second son of F.U. Ramsay.
The statement read: "With profound sadness, we announce the passing of one of the Ramsay Brothers, the legendary cinematographer, filmmaker, producer and the second eldest son of F.U. Ramsay, Gangu Ramsay. He departed from us early this morning at 8 am, at the age of 83, after battling health issues for the past month. He was admitted in Kokilaben Hospital."
Gangu Ramsay's illustrious career spanned decades, leaving an indelible mark on the Indian film industry. He lent his creative vision to over 50 films under the banner of Ramsay Brothers, including classics like "Veerana", "Purana Mandir", and "Bandh Darwaza", "Do Gaz Zameen Ke Niche", "Samri", "Tehkhana", "Purani Haveli", and "Khoj" with Rishi Kapoor.
He was also associated with Saif Ali Khan's debut film, "Ashiq Awara", and collaborated on numerous occasions with the Bollywood action hero Akshay Kumar, crafting memorable moments in cinematic history.
He worked with Akshay Kumar in the Khiladi series like "Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi", "Sabse Bada Khiladi", "Mr and Mrs Khiladi", "Pandav", and "Mr Bond".
Besides Bollywood, Gangu Ramsay also worked on television, notably with the acclaimed "Zee Horror Show", which captivated audiences for over 8 years. Other than Zee Horror Show, "Saturday Suspense", "Naagin", and "Zimbo" were also popular series.
His legacy extends beyond Bollywood and Hindi TV, he had worked with renowned south actors like Vishnu Vardhan in the southern film industry.
