Benji Gregory, renowned for his role in the beloved TV series ALF, has tragically passed away at the age of 46. On June 13, authorities discovered his lifeless body in his car parked at a Chase Bank in Peoria, Arizona. TMZ reported that those close to Gregory believe he had visited the bank the previous day to deposit checks and likely fell asleep in his vehicle.
Tragically, it is suspected that Gregory succumbed to vehicular heatstroke. The temperature in Arizona soared to a scorching 109 degrees on June 12. Additionally, his service dog, Hans, was also found dead in the car.
The Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office informed ABC7 Los Angeles that the official cause of death remains undetermined. Rebecca Hertzberg-Pfaffinger, Gregory's older sister, revealed to TMZ that the actor had been battling depression, bipolar disorder, and a severe sleep disorder that left him awake for extended periods.
Gregory achieved fame portraying Brian Tanner in 101 episodes of ALF, which aired from 1986 to 1990. The show centred around an alien named Gordon Shumway, who crash-landed into the Tanner family’s suburban home, with puppeteer Paul Fusco, co-creator of the series alongside Tom Patchett, bringing the character to life.
In 2018, Warner Bros. announced preliminary plans to reboot ALF, but the project was shelved later that year due to a lack of interest. However, in February of this year, Shout! Factory disclosed that it had acquired the rights to ALF and intended to develop new related content.
