Actor Gajraj Rao has once again reaffirmed his commitment to impactful and socially relevant storytelling. The versatile performer recently took to social media to unveil a 3.4-minute promotional video for Band Baaja Bitiya, a short film that delves into the pressing and deeply sensitive issue of domestic violence.

The thought-provoking video quickly drew attention online, including praise from actor-politician Smriti Irani, who amplified its message by sharing it on her Instagram and urging society to confront the harsh realities many women face behind closed doors.

Sharing the promotional clip featuring Gajraj Rao, Smriti used her platform to address the alarming rise in domestic violence cases and emphasise the urgent need for change.

In a powerful and heartfelt caption, she wrote, "Sometimes, the most defining moment in a woman’s life is knowing she has a home to return to. For generations, far too many daughters have been told to “adjust”, to tolerate the intolerable, to preserve appearances at the cost of their own dignity. We normalised phrases like “thoda bohot chalta hai” without pausing to reflect on the quiet damage they inflict. Let me say this clearly. Violence is not culture. It is not tradition."

She further wrote, "It is NOT acceptable. It never has been. It never will be. A woman’s strength is extraordinary. She nurtures, builds, sacrifices and perseveres. But strength should never be mistaken for a licence to suffer. No daughter should feel that silence is her only option. No woman should ever believe that dignity is negotiable."

Highlighting the crucial role of family support, Smriti added, "When families stand by their daughters without hesitation, they do far more than protect a single life. They shift the moral centre of society. They redefine honour. They remind us that love is not control, and marriage is not endurance. As a mother, and as someone who believes deeply in inherent dignity, I hold this close to my heart. Empowerment does not begin in policy alone."

Concluding her note with a message of hope and responsibility, she stated, "It begins in homes that choose courage over conformity. May we raise sons who respect women as just a fellow human being. May we raise daughters who know their worth. And may we build families where coming home is never a defeat, but an affirmation of dignity. Video courtesy @gajrajrao."

In Band Baaja Bitiya, Gajraj Rao steps into the role of a father who unwaveringly supports his daughter as she takes the brave step of leaving an abusive marriage. Inspired by real events, the short film confronts difficult themes such as domestic violence, societal expectations, and the stigma associated with divorce in India.

Rather than centring solely on trauma, the narrative shifts the focus to resilience, compassion, and the transformative power of unconditional familial backing — a perspective that is rarely explored with such sensitivity in mainstream narratives.

Produced by Goel TMT, the project aligns with the brand’s broader philosophy of “strength and support,” blending corporate social responsibility with meaningful cinematic storytelling that aims to spark dialogue and awareness.
