Shalini Passi brought Indian art and couture to the global spotlight at Cannes, draped in a breathtaking custom gown designed by celebrated designer Manish Malhotra. Titled ‘Longitude 77’, the gown is more than just a fashion piece—it’s a tribute to India’s cultural richness and visual legacy.
The artwork printed on the gown is inspired by renowned artist Paresh Maity’s series of the same name, showcasing the diverse spirit of India from the Himalayas to Kanyakumari.
Standing on the balcony of Hotel Martinez, Shalini stunned in a strapless navy blue gown that elegantly cascades into a canvas of vibrant landscapes and iconic Indian imagery. The intricate print and handwork reflect a journey across India’s geography, art, and soul, blending couture with cultural storytelling. The ensemble is a remarkable collaboration of two creative powerhouses—Malhotra’s mastery in fashion and Maity’s brilliance in fine art.
In her caption, Shalini wrote, “Draped in India’s soul, stitched in art and heritage,” calling the gown “a canvas, blending my love for art, fashion, and India.” She expressed her pride in representing India’s heritage on an international platform like the Festival de Cannes.

The look was completed with jewellery by Manish Malhotra Jewellery, a statement clutch by Judith Leiber, and glam makeup by Shobhit Khuranaa. Styled by Nupur Mehta with assistance from Sanssgram, Shalini’s hair was done by JB Beauty Artist, while the stunning visuals were captured by Ryan Martis and M2 Foto Factory.
Shalini Passi has once again shown how fashion can be a powerful tool to carry cultural narratives to a global stage, and this look will be remembered as one of the most artistic statements from India at Cannes 2024.
