Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor's starrer Sanjay Dutt’s biopic, Sanju, became a huge hit and received critical acclaim. However, the film notably didn't feature any details about the actor’s family, and his sister Priya Dutt has expressed some concerns about the biopic.
Sanju, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, was released in 2018 and was a commercial hit. However, Sanjay Dutt’s sister, Priya, claimed that the biopic didn’t do justice to his story.
In a recent interview with Vickey Lalwani, Priya Dutt noted, "I felt that the movie didn’t do justice to my mother or my father. There was much more that could have been explored. Even the father-son relationship could have been depicted in a deeper way. I believe a lot more could have been shown."
Priya also claimed that the biopic failed to portray its true side. This could be because it focuses mostly on a single friend, played by Vicky Kaushal. However, she insisted that the friend was actually an “amalgamation of many friends.”
She also insisted that the filmmaker might have a different vision and felt that the film was a bit exaggerated.
Priya shared, “I was tempted... But I think they had a different concept in mind. I didn’t call him. Their focus was just Sanju, of course, which I get that—and his life. It became a bit of a caricature. Maybe they had to amalgamate too many characters. It’s not what I expected it to be. I think it was more entertainment…”

However, she interestingly noted that she loved the performance of Ranbir Kapoor, who portrayed her brother and superstar Sanjay Dutt. She said, “I loved Ranbir Kapoor in it. He played Sanju very well. But yeah, I feel it wasn’t really a biopic. It was a film, very entertaining, and included only certain aspects of his life. The intensity was missing.”
For the unversed, Sanju depicts Sanjay Dutt’s controversial life, including his film career, jail sentence, and personal life. The film also stars Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala and Sonam Kapoor among others in the pivotal roles.
