Mustafa Ahmed, who plays Rizwan in Dhurandhar 2, is steadily becoming a talking point not just for his screen presence, but also for the remarkable journey that brought him to cinema. Before stepping into the world of acting, Mustafa had already built a strong reputation in Bollywood as a celebrity fitness trainer, working with stars like Ranveer Singh, Vicky Kaushal, Yami Gautam and Hrithik Roshan.
His story is one of grit, reinvention and belief. From earning just Rs 10,000 a month at a gym in West Delhi to becoming a sought-after trainer and eventually an actor in a major film, Mustafa’s rise has caught the attention of many.
From fitness floors to film sets
In Dhurandhar: The Revenge, Mustafa essays the role of Rizwan, a trusted aide in the film’s high-stakes spy world. His character adds depth to the narrative led by Ranveer Singh, who plays undercover spy Hamza Ali Mazari.
But long before facing the camera, Mustafa was known in Bollywood circles for helping actors physically transform for demanding roles. He trained some of the industry’s biggest stars and became a respected strength and conditioning coach.
Among those he worked with were Ranveer Singh, Vicky Kaushal, Yami Gautam and Hrithik Roshan. His work behind the scenes made him an important part of many actors’ preparation, even before audiences knew his name.
A difficult beginning
Mustafa’s early life was far from easy. Raised in an Afghani background and dealing with dyslexia, he dropped out of formal education at an early stage. He has openly spoken about not being a bright student in the conventional sense, but said he was always physically inclined and naturally drawn to sports and movement.
At the age of 21, he was reportedly earning around Rs 1 lakh a month as a call centre team leader. Yet a chance encounter at a Janakpuri gym changed the course of his life.
According to the reports, Mustafa once helped a woman at the gym after she had been ignored by a trainer. Later, he received a letter from her saying that he was meant for fitness, that it was his true calling, and that not pursuing it would be almost criminal. That moment stayed with him and pushed him toward a complete career shift.
Starting over at Rs 10,000
Quitting a stable, well-paying job was not easy. Mustafa faced resistance from family and was even labelled crazy for leaving security behind. Still, he chose to begin again from scratch and took up a gym job in West Delhi for just Rs 10,000 a month.
That decision, though risky, became the foundation of everything that followed. His dedication and confidence soon helped him stand out. Within a short period, he had built a name for himself at Fitness First, where he reportedly rose quickly and became one of the top trainers in Asia. By 2009, he was handling up to 14 sessions a day and earning over Rs 1.4 lakh a month.
Training stars and entering Bollywood
Mustafa later began working closely with Bollywood actors. He helped Ranveer Singh with physical transformation work, and also trained Vicky Kaushal and Yami Gautam for Uri. Hrithik Roshan, too, became one of the major names associated with his fitness journey.
His transition into acting came with encouragement from director Aditya Dhar, who reportedly saw potential in him beyond fitness coaching. Mustafa eventually made his Bollywood debut with Dhoom Dhaam and then appeared in the Dhurandhar films as Rizwan.
What makes Mustafa Ahmed’s story stand out is not just the shift from trainer to actor, but the courage to start from the bottom after once walking away from comfort. In an industry full of dramatic success stories, his remains one of the most grounded and inspiring.
