Actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu recently gained notoriety on social media after liking a post that addressed the problem of relationship abandonment, especially when one partner becomes gravely ill. With more than 60,000 likes on Instagram, the post, which addressed the upsetting subject of men abandoning their ailing partners, attracted a lot of attention.
The post, shared by the Instagram page Successverse, featured excerpts from a video originally posted by the YouTube channel Diary of a CEO.
The video, titled "Why Men Leave Sick Partners: The Cold Truth Behind Relationship Abandonment," examined a troubling statistic: men are 624% more likely to abandon their partner if she becomes terminally ill, while women tend to stay and care for their ill spouses.
The experts in the video examined the causes of this phenomenon, blaming it on social conditioning, gender roles in society, and other factors. Samantha, who liked the post without leaving a comment or sharing it further on her profile, was among the many people who found resonance in the video.
Samantha's personal experience with health issues attracted attention to this specific post. The actress disclosed in 2022 that she has been suffering from myositis, an autoimmune condition that is uncommon and incurable and results in muscle weakness, pain, and inflammation.

Her everyday life has been greatly affected by the illness, which has made functioning and working difficult. Samantha made her revelation a year after divorcing Telugu actor Naga Chaitanya, whom she had wed in 2017. The couple formally divorced the following year after rumours of a split surfaced in 2020.
Samantha has remained active in her career, most recently costarring with Varun Dhawan in the 2024 Amazon Prime Video series Citadel: Honey Bunny. The parent Citadel series, which stars Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra, will go on even though reports indicate that Honey Bunny's second season has been cancelled. Samantha is currently demonstrating her versatility as an actress by working on the Netflix series Rakt Brahmand: The Bloody Kingdom.
