What started as a routine technology showcase at IIT Bombay Techfest 2025 quickly turned into a moment no one saw coming — a humanoid robot dancing confidently to FA9LA, the viral track from Ranveer Singh starrer Dhurandhar.

The unexpected performance blended cinema, music and robotics in a way that left the audience both amazed and amused.

Dhurandhar has been making steady waves at the box office, earning appreciation not just for its performances and storytelling but also for its pulsating soundtrack. Among the songs, FA9LA by Bahrain-based rap artist Flipperachi has stood out, gaining massive traction online.

The track, already popular for its association with Akshaye Khanna’s intense screen presence, found a whole new audience when it echoed across the Techfest stage.

As the music kicked in, the humanoid robot began moving in perfect sync with the Arabic beats. What was meant to demonstrate engineering precision soon felt like a genuine performance.

The robot’s balance, timing and fluid movements surprised the crowd, prompting cheers and a sea of raised phones capturing the moment. In seconds, the focus shifted from circuits and coding to sheer entertainment.

Clips of the performance spread rapidly on social media, where viewers expressed both awe and disbelief. According to posts circulating online, the robot was developed by Bidyut Innovation, whose work in humanoid robotics took centre stage through this unconventional presentation.

The comment sections quickly filled with humour and pop-culture references. One user joked, “Finally! Akshaye Khanna isn't the only one anymore, competition is here.” Another wrote, “Day 1 as a spy in humans.”

A more thoughtful comment read, “I feel shockingly amazed and a little sad that a robot is dancing and a few humans are recording it, but not the human dancing and robots recording.” Others added light-hearted takes such as “Someone just said Rehman Da 'Tech'.” and “This is what the decades of kicking Boston Dynamics bots have led to.”

Techfest, often regarded as Asia’s largest science and technology festival, has long been a space where innovation meets imagination.

Organisers later explained that the robot’s dance was carefully designed to showcase advancements in balance control, motion planning and real-time responsiveness — areas that remain some of the toughest challenges in humanoid robotics.
