Chakda Xpress, headlined by Anushka Sharma, has remained in the spotlight amid ongoing speculation that the film may have been shelved.
Following actor Dibyendu Bhattacharya's remarks on the uncertainty surrounding the project, actress Renuka Shahane, who is also part of the film, has now shared her emotional response to the reports.
In a recent interaction with NDTV, Renuka Shahane expressed deep disappointment upon hearing the news. She said, “I am totally heartbroken. Basically, because I think everyone has put in so much effort. Anushka has also worked on herself so much for it. And whatever scenes I did were so powerful and so impactful, especially for women in sports."
Highlighting Anushka Sharma's commitment to the role, she noted that the actress had undergone significant personal preparation for the project.
Renuka added that the scenes she had shot were powerful and carried a strong message, especially for women in sports. “Jhulan Goswami is iconic, and coming from a very poor house and making it big—and yet the kind of discrepancy that still exists between men’s cricket and women’s cricket, and all other sports, I would say—Chakda Xpress had that core quality of sportsmanship," she added.
She continued by highlighting how iconic the story of Jhulan Goswami, the subject of the movie, is. The story of Goswami, who rose from a humble upbringing to achieve remarkable success in Indian cricket, epitomises the spirit of tenacity and drive.
When asked by News18 about whether the movie had been shelved or had just been postponed, Dibyendu Bhattacharya acknowledged that he was unaware of its current state.
He claimed that although he was totally ignorant of developments, he would have shared any information he knew. Additionally, he stated that he had no knowledge of the ongoing conversations between Clean Slate Filmz and Netflix and that the matter appeared to be between them.
Following her final big-screen appearance in Zero (2018), costarring Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif, Anushka Sharma announced Chakda Xpress as her comeback movie in 2022. Chakda Xpress is based on the life and journey of Indian cricketer Jhulan Goswami.

Clean Slate Filmz, the production company led by Anushka's brother Karnesh Ssharma, is supporting the film, which is meant to be an emotional homage to Jhulan Goswami's cricketing journey.
However, in 2023, reports surfaced that Clean Slate had ended its partnership with Netflix, causing delays in its lineup of planned releases. The future of Chakda Xpress now appears uncertain, leaving fans and cast members alike awaiting clarity on whether the film will eventually see the light of day.
