Actor and director Rishab Shetty is gearing up for his highly anticipated film, Kantara Chapter 1. The actor has been promoting the film at various events and planned to host a promotional event in Chennai on September 30.
However, the makers have cancelled the event following the tragic stampede at Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief and actor Vijay’s rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, which claimed at least 41 people and left 60 injured.
Hombale Films took to the official Instagram account and issued a statement, expressing their condolences to the family affected by the tragedy.
The statement reads, “In view of the recent unfortunate incident, we have decided to cancel our Kantara Chapter 1 promotional event scheduled in Chennai tomorrow. We believe this is a time for reflection and solidarity with those affected.”
The statement continued, “Our deepest condolences and prayers are with the families impacted. We are grateful for your understanding and support, and we look forward to meeting our audience in Tamil Nadu at a more appropriate time.”
The official statement was accompanied with the caption that reads, “Due to the recent unfortunate incident, we are cancelling the #KantaraChapter1 promotional event in Chennai tomorrow. Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected.”
The caption concluded, “Thank you for your understanding. We look forward to meeting our audience in Tamil Nadu at a more appropriate time.”
What happened at Vijay’s Karur Rally?
Actor and politician Vijay had recently organised a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam campaign rally in Karur. However, a stampede broke out as the crowd rushed to the barricades in hopes of seeing him, leading to a tragic stampede. A number of people fainted at the spot and were taken to the hospital.
According to PTI, the tragic incident claimed at least 41 lives and left 60 injured, including children and women.
Vijay expressed his sorrow on Sunday and said that the families of the deceased would receive Rs 20 lakh, while the injured would receive Rs 2 lakh each.

The most-awaited prequel to the 2022 hit Kantara, Kantara Chapter 1, is directed by Rishab Shetty and produced by Vijay Kiragandur and Chaluve Gowda under Hombale Films.
Besides Rishab, the upcoming film also stars Rukmini Vasanth and Gulshan Devaiah in the key roles.
