Mammootty received praise for his role in Kalamkaval

Mammootty's Kalamkaval hit the theatres on December 5 with mixed reviews and a decent box office collection. The thriller, which also features Vinayakan in a major part, has high expectations, but the film seems to be struggling to meet the numbers.

According to the trade website, Kalamkaval earned Rs 5.25 crore net in India on its second day of release, taking the total collection to Rs 10.25 crore net in India. The film registered 49.32% Malayalam occupancy with 30.01% footfall during the morning show, which was later increased by 44.02% during the afternoon, 56.73% in the evening and 66.53% occupancy during the night.

The film opened in the theatres with Rs 5 crore net in India. Kalamkaval officially surpassed Bazooka, Dominic, and The Ladies' Purse's first-day receipts with Rs 5 crore.

The film is expected to see a surge on its first Sunday after more than 120 shows, especially evening and night ones, were added on December 5.

About Kalamkaval

The Malayalam-language action thriller film is directed by debutant Jithin K. Jose, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jishnu Sreekumar. Mammootty Kampany backed the film, which stars Mammootty and Vinayakan in the lead roles along with Gibin Gopinath, Gayatri Arun, Rajisha Vijayan and Shruti Ramachandran in supporting roles.

Kalamkaval revolves around a routine Kerala Police inquiry in the quiet village of Kottayikonam, which takes an unexpected turn when a trail of seemingly minor clues unravels into a string of disturbing cases. The investigation soon reveals some unsolved mysteries that have lingered in many cases.
