Rasika Dugal embraces ‘OTT Queen’ label: I don’t have a problem with these tags

Rasika Dugal, known for her remarkable performances in critically acclaimed web series like Mirzapur and Delhi Crime, remains unfazed by the label of being an “OTT actor.” In a recent conversation with HT, she shared her thoughts on how the perception of being confined to a particular medium does not bother her in the slightest.

“People have their own perceptions, and they are entitled to them in a way. Sometimes, the perception can work in your favour, sometimes it won’t. There is nothing you can do about it,” Rasika stated.

Rasika’s journey in the industry has been dynamic and rewarding. From cult-favorite roles in Mirzapur to leading the cast in Lootcase, she has demonstrated her versatility across genres. Given that most of her successful projects have been on OTT platforms, she was asked if she ever worries about being typecast. However, she remains unconcerned about such classifications.

“There are varying perceptions. I don’t really keep track of them. Sometimes, as actors, you don’t even get to know what worked in your favor and what didn’t. There are anyway so many things beyond your control. I don’t have a problem with these tags,” she remarked.

For Rasika, her body of work speaks louder than any tag or industry perception. “I don’t feel insecure, therefore, about it at all. In fact, sometimes if someone wants to use labels like ‘OTT queen,’ that’s great yaar, why not?” she quipped with a smile.

She further expressed how the love she receives for her digital projects is as impactful as any theatrical release. Recalling the experience of working on Mirzapur Season 3, she shared, “It was so nice to engage with the audience of Mirzapur again. They are so loyal and full of curiosity about it. The love we get for our work is very addictive.”

As the entertainment industry continues to evolve, actors like Rasika Dugal are proving that talent and dedication are far more important than medium-based classifications. With her unwavering confidence and impressive range, she is set to continue captivating audiences, whether on OTT or beyond.
