South superstar Dulquer Salmaan is gearing up for the release of his highly anticipated upcoming film, Kaantha. However, his fans will soon get a big surprise on the actor’s birthday as the makers will drop the teaser of the upcoming biopic.
Rana Daggubati is co-producing the film with Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films. Daggubati took to his Instagram and teased the teaser release on his social media. He dropped the first look at Dulquer and announced in the caption, “The road to release begins with the first tease at 3PM tomorrow.”
The movie explores the story of M.K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, who is seen as Tamil cinema’s first superstar. Dulquer plays the role of the legendary actor, showcasing both his achievements and challenges.
The film’s teaser has officially cleared the censor board and is expected to come out on July 28, which also notably marks Dulquer’s birthday.
Running for 2 minutes and 14 seconds, the teaser gives a first look at a visually stunning period film that delves into the legacy of a cultural icon. The movie is directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, known for his gripping Netflix documentary The Hunt for Veerappan. With Selvaraj leading the project, there are high hopes for a powerful and respectful depiction of Bhagavathar’s life.

The project also stands out due to its unique production team. Interestingly, Dulquer first joined the project as the lead actor but later chose to take on the role of co-producer as well.
Set in post-independence Madras during the 1950s, Kaantha features Dulquer Salmaan in the lead, with support from Rana Daggubati, Bhagyashri Borse, and Samuthirakani. The film is being jointly produced by Spirit Media and Wayfarer Films.
