'Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein', now beloved by many, was initially a flop when it was released at the box office.
Actor R. Madhavan, attending the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa for the premiere of his film 'Hisaab Barabar', spoke about his iconic movie 'Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein'. The film was re-released in August this year to celebrate its 25th anniversary.
In an interview with ANI, Madhavan revealed how heartbroken he was when Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein initially flopped at the box office. However, he expressed happiness that the film later gained classic status. He also shared his delight that the movie, re-released after 25 years, earned more than it did during its original run.
"When it first released, it didn't do well, it was a flop. So I remember being heartbroken. I had gone to all the temples and made sure I had left no stone unturned to make the film the way it was supposed to, but it was heartbreaking. Little did I realise that fortune and fate had a big story for me. It (re-)released after 25 years and made more money than it did originally. It's wonderful to be recognised for doing a film 25 years later," Madhavan said.
Directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein was released in 2001. It is a remake of the Tamil film Minnale, which was also directed by Menon and released earlier that same year.
A few years ago, rumors circulated online suggesting that the makers of Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein were planning a sequel. However, in 2020, Madhavan dismissed these rumors, clarifying that no sequel was in the works.
The Tanu Weds Manu actor shared an intriguing observation about his films, noting that whenever he portrayed "romance on the train," those movies tended to perform exceptionally well.
