The Navi Mumbai police have apprehended a suspect linked to an alleged plot to assassinate Bollywood star Salman Khan. The accused, identified as Sukha, was arrested in Panipat, Haryana, and is set to be presented before a court on Thursday after being brought back to Navi Mumbai, according to police officials.

This arrest comes on the heels of a troubling series of events involving threats against Khan. In June, authorities revealed that they had uncovered a scheme to target the actor while he was en route to his farmhouse near Panvel. This plot was reportedly connected to an earlier shooting incident that occurred outside Khan's residence in Bandra in April 2024, which the actor himself attributed to the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

Khan had previously expressed his fears to law enforcement, suggesting that the Bishnoi gang was behind the attack, which he believed aimed not only at him but also at his family. His assertions are part of a charge sheet filed by the Mumbai police, detailing a pattern of intimidation that has plagued the actor over the past few years.

The troubling nature of these incidents began to escalate in 2022 when a threatening letter was discovered on a bench opposite Khan's building. The situation intensified further in March 2023, when Khan received an email threat from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which has a history of violent crime and extortion in the film industry.

In January 2024, two unidentified individuals attempted to breach Khan’s Panvel farmhouse, reportedly using false identities. This incident raised alarms about the seriousness of the threats against him, prompting the actor to take additional precautions for his safety.

As investigations unfolded, police discovered that the Lawrence Bishnoi and Sampat Nehra gangs had deployed between 60 to 70 operatives to surveil Khan's movements. This operation was part of a concerted effort to gather intelligence on his activities, which included tracking his travels to various filming locations, his home in Bandra, and his Panvel property. The comprehensive nature of this surveillance illustrated the alarming lengths to which these gangs were willing to go in their pursuit of Khan.

Following credible information about the assassination plot, a case was registered against several individuals at the Panvel Town police station on April 24. The swift action taken by law enforcement in apprehending Sukha demonstrates the urgency with which they are addressing these serious threats to Khan’s life.(With PTI inputs)
