Pakistani actor Danish Taimoor recently found himself at the centre of controversy after his remarks on polygamy went viral. During a live segment of his Ramadan special show Mehfil-e-Ramadan, he stated, “Mujhe ijazat hai chaar shaadiyon ki… Main kar nahi raha, vo alag baat hai. No one can take it away from me.” (I am allowed to marry four times… I am not doing it, that’s a different matter. No one can take that right away from me.) His statement, made in front of his wife, Ayeza Khan, sparked massive online backlash, with netizens criticizing his views.
Danish Reacts to the Trolls
After facing severe trolling, Danish Taimoor finally addressed the situation, clarifying his stance and sharing his reaction to the public outrage. He revealed that he and his wife, Ayeza Khan, found the whole controversy amusing. “Main aur Ayeza hum comments padh kar hass rahe the.” (Ayeza and I were reading the comments and laughing.)
Taimoor said that his words were taken out of context and misinterpreted. He stated, “Jaisa ki maine kaha tha ki mujhe 4 shaadiyon ki ijaazat hai, lekin main kar nahi raha kyunki filhaal mujhe pyaar hai apni biwi se. Aur main aaj bhi ispar qayam hoon.” (As I had said, I am allowed to marry four times, but I am not doing it because right now, I love my wife. And I still stand by it.)
Clarification on His Statement
Danish further elaborated that he was merely stating a fact rather than promoting polygamy. He added, “Maine kaha tha filhaal, kyunki mujhe nahi pata ki main yahaan se nikal kar zinda rahunga ya nahi. Main ek second ke baad mar gaya toh? Yeh jo lafz hai na ‘hamesha’, hamesha koi nahi reh sakta.” (I had said ‘for now’ because I don’t know if I will step out of here and still be alive or not. What if I die in the next second? The word ‘forever’—nothing lasts forever.)
Despite his explanation, social media users continued to criticize him, arguing that his comments seemed to normalize polygamy. Some pointed out that his remarks could influence his fans and audience negatively. Others claimed he was trying too hard to justify his words after facing backlash.
Danish Defends His Perspective
Taimoor defended his viewpoint by addressing the way people were reacting to his words. “Gossip karna galat baat hai. Kaise logon ko judge kar sakte hain? Aapke dil ki baat, aap ya Allah jaanta hai.” (Gossiping is wrong. How can people judge others? Only you and Allah know what’s in your heart.)
He also commented on the way people selectively interpreted his statement, saying, “Logon ne mere ek shabd ‘filhaal’ ko pakda. Main toh kahunga ki har kisi ko aaj se yeh shabd istemaal karna chahiye.” (People just focused on the word ‘for now.’ I would say everyone should start using this word from today.)
The Public’s Reaction
Despite his numerous attempts to clarify, many users remained unconvinced. Some called him out for trying to justify his words instead of apologizing. A few defended him, saying that he was just stating a fact, but the majority of comments continued to criticize his stance. One user wrote, “Eik shadi shuda aurat keh rahi Aiza deserves better, sthu. Bro clearly said he loves n respects his wife. Eik achi kasi khush family ko shaitan torne ka idea de reh, disgusting creatures.” (A married woman is saying Ayeza deserves better, shut up. He clearly said he loves and respects his wife. Why are people trying to ruin a happy family?)
